Biography Gianni Maroccolo

Gianni Maroccolo (born 9 May 1960 in Manciano, Tuscany, Italy) is an Italian musician.

Musically active in the 1980s darkwave scene of Firenze, after attending at double-bass, phonology and electronic musics courses in the Academy of music, he founded Litfiba in the historic seat of De Bardi street.

In the same period he begins to cultivate a passion for the marriage between music and acting, composing numerous soundtracks for theatre (based on the writings of Gabriele D'Annunzio, Samuel Beckett, Pierpaolo Pasolini and Curzio Malaparte), cinema (where he develops soundtracks for "Tutti giù per terra", "Escoriandoli", "Jack Frusciante è uscito dal gruppo", "Paz"), radio and TV with musics for documentaries, short movies and radio comedies.

With Piero Pelù (vocals), Federico "Ghigo" Renzulli (guitar), Antonio Aiazzi (keyboards) and Francesco Calamai (drums) substituted earlier by Renzo Franchi and later by Luca de Benedictis, stage name Ringo de Palma - LITFIBA live the post punk italian season until 1989, year of Pirata. Here Maroccolo and Ringo de Palma (successively dead in a tragic accident) leave the band. That adventure leaves beyond 400 concerts in all Europe and especially the beautiful album 17 Re, the bands masterpiece of which Maroccolo entirely supervised the arrangements. Parallel to LITFIBA, he founds the ensemble BEAU GESTE with Francesco Magnelli and Antonio Aiazzi; an electronic minimalistic music project that will produce 3 albums and three more cinemas and theatres soundtracks, followed by acoustic installations for settings and contemporary arts exhibition.

Never forsakening his role of musician and composer, he starts in 1987 his activity as an artistic producer, working with the most valuable artist such as CCP Fedeli alla Linea, TIMORIA, ANDREA CHIMENTI, MARLENE KUNTZ, BANDABARDO, DIAFRAMMA, CSI, PGR, etc. In 1993 he is CSIs (CONSORZIO SUONATORI INDIPENDENTI) founding member, the music band led by Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, reaching in 1997 the top rank in the charts, always keeping on the stylistic and musical research, his own trademark. Along with CSI, he gives life to the record label CPI CONSORZIO PRODUTTORI INDIPENDENTI, emblematic reality of the 90s independent Italian music scene. The pure musical activity is sided by seminars, teachings at schools, universities, organizations and institutions linked to the Special Projects of the European Social Fund.

With the double Noi Non Ci Saremo, in 1998 theres an end to C.S.I.s way along with all the others projects (Il Maciste , Sonica and I Dischi del Mulo); but the idea of having something to say with music is still there. Maroccolo dedicates himself to the composition of the musics which will be part of PGRs first record (Per Grazia Ricevuta), where the most part of CSIs protagonists, except for Zamboni, flows. Maroccolo creates three albums with PGR. Pgr, Montesole and the recent dAnime e dAnimali.

Between 2003 and 2004 composes the soundtrack for the performance INIZIALI B.C.G.L.F. directed by Giorgio Barberio Corsetti and begins his soloist path making his first record A.C.A.U. La nostra Meraviglia. It is a little jewel of minimal pop music featuring musics and voices of a 25 years old story: Piero Pelù, Franco Battiato, Manuel Agnelli, Giorgio Canali, Ginevra di Marco, Cristiano Godano, Fiamma, Lorenzo Cherubini, Cristina Donà, Andrea Chimenti, Federico Fiumani, Franceso Renga, Raizz, Carmen Consoli, Giovanni Lindo Ferretti, Cia, Cristiano Della Monica and also Magnelli, Daniela Forma, Andrea Lepri, Nina "pigna" Maroccolo, Alberto Cottica, Superpippo, Furio Di Castri, Vittorio Cosma. A psychedelic, simple, sincere and direct record thought in his sea shack, in absolute loneliness, just like it was at the beginning.

During summer 2004 he tours with PGR and he takes care of the last edition of La Notte Della Taranta with the help of Ambrogio Sparagna and Giovanni Lindo Ferretti. M.E.I. Audiocoop awards him with the 2004s careers Prize.

At the end of 2004 we find him with the band MARLENE KUNTZ, this time as a music player: in fact he cooperates to their new album BIANCO SPORCO released in march 2005, performing on stage during the tour.

He is currently working on a whole new musical project with a young artist from Brescia, IVANA GATTI, as both musician and producer. He keeps on teaching since 1998 and he coordinates courses aimed at inserting in various fields-such as music, show, multimedia-promoted by CENTRO MUSICA DI MODENA with Regione Emilia Romagna and European Social Fund.
