History

Swiss folk music is an old, respectable, light brown painted car of a grandfather. It has been standing in the garage behind the house during many years. On a boring Sunday afternoon, the grandchildren notice that this dusty piece of crap is a hidden pearl. That’s how Kummerbuben fell on Swiss folk music, and that’s how they treat it – like on old, run down car. You have to hammer a few times on it, paint some strange birds on the lacquer and hang a skeleton on the driving mirror, before you can begin to like it. Kummerbuben are six musicians from Bern, Switzerland. They were coming from different corners, with different backgrounds, but it worked – so well, that they had a big success in Switzerland with their first CD «Liebi und anderi Verbräche». Out of the old folk songs, the Kummerbuben form smashing polka in a Balkan like stile, swinging waltz songs with a crooked note or ballads red like the evening sun. It’s mostly dark, melancholic songs of vagabonds and losers, far away from dumb patriotism.
