History Ball Noir
Ball Noir is a band from the Netherlands. They make a kind of music which they call "Doomball"; it can be described as Balfolk dancing music, but with heavy influences from rock and (doom) metal.
They succeed surprisingly well in mixing these very different genres of music. Many of Ball Noir's song titles start with the name of the Balfolk-dance that can be danced to the song, followed by "of Death" - and while their songs are very suitable for Balfolk dancing, it is not uncommon to also see people headbanging during one of their concerts.
In December 2007, they released a three-song promotional mini-cd, entitled 'A Passionate Dancewish', which is available for listening on their myspace.
From the Ball Noir Facebook May 26th 2015:
Today Ball Noir brings sad news to you: our front man, lead singer and lead guitarist Lennart has left Ball Noir as a band member. We started the band together and we share a friendship that goes much further than our adventures on stage. It goes without saying that we will miss him terribly, but of course we do respect his choice and we wish him all the best in exploring new ideas and starting new projects!
Dear Lennart, thank you for being part of the Ball Noir journey, for your creativity, for your head-banging curls on stage, for lending us your overwhelming voice and for the good times we had!
Lennart in his own words:
There’s no easy way to say this, but my musical interests have brought me on another path, so I have decided to leave Ball Noir. My heart goes out to Marco, Lies, Rutger, Mark and Richard for making me feel so welcome all these years. I’m really going to miss making music with you!
And for you, Ball Noir fans….. I thank you with all my heart!
