History
The Alexanders were formed in 1967. Founding member Alexander Schilling was leader and trombonist of the band. At the same time he acted as the namesake of the band. Among other things, the musicians Reinhard Lakomy , Uve Schikora , Andreas Andy Altenfelder , Johannes Lemke (drums) and guitarist Johannes Hansi Biebl worked with the Alexanders in the initial phase of the existence. In 1969, the wind group consisted of four wind players.
Singer and guitarist Herbert Dreilich and keyboardist Ulrich Ed Swillms joined the Alexanders in 1969. Bass guitarist Henning Protzmann followed a year later. The band played melodic rock in the style of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young (CSN&Y), sometimes also blues , soul and jazz rock . In 1969, the only title by the Alexanders on GDR records was the jazz rock piece Honigmond . In 1970 the titles Hoffnung , Nachts and September were broadcast by GDR radioproduced. Hoffnung is a German-language adaptation of the Crosby, Stills & Nash title Helplessly Hoping , at night is clearly based on Tim Hardin's If I Were a Carpenter .
