History Kruzenshtern & Parohod

Kruzenshtern & Parohod (Russian: Крузенштерн и Пароход) is a Russophone Israel klezmer-rock band from Tel Aviv, created in 2002.

The Kruzenshtern & Parohod’s style may be defined as Jewish avant-rock. The music, based on the Jewish melodies and influenced by as different music styles as hardcore, rock-in-opposition, jazz, and more, is of avant-garde and experimental nature.

Its style is variously branded as experimental jazz, klezmercore (a pun on hardcore), ethno jazz, avant-garde.

The band was formed by Igor Krutogolov, young Israeli artist, contemporary composer, multiinstrumentalist, known for his many collaborations and solo projects in the Israeli experimental scene, and by Ruslan Gross (Russell Bear), former bass player of Rabies Caste, Israeli hardcore and sludge outfit. Joined by powerful young drummer Guy Schechter, the trio became the strongest and strangest act in the Israeli experimental scene.

The lineup consists of :

Igor Krutogolov - bass balalaika, vocals, toy accordion, noise;

Ruslan Gross - clarinet, bass clarinet, vocals;

Olya Yelensky - accordion;

Boris Martzinovsky - accordion;

Guy Shechter - drums, vocals (currently also Carusella).
