Biography

Chris Spedding (born 17 June 1944 in Staveley, Derbyshire, as Peter Robinson and renamed Christopher John Spedding by his adoptive parents) is an English rock and roll and jazz guitarist, best known for his session work. Amongst the bands with which he has played are Pete Brown & His Battered Ornaments, the pioneering British jazz-rock band Nucleus, and British rock band Sharks. In 1975 Spedding had a Top 20 solo hit in the UK with "Motorbikin'". As a session musician he played on Harry Nilsson's breakthrough album, Nilsson Schmilsson, recorded in London. As a producer, he produced the Sex Pistols' first demos, recorded on 15 May 1976. He continues to tour and record, in 2011 in a five-piece band called King Mob.

Spedding was raised by adoptive parents in Sheffield before moving to Birmingham. During the late 1960s and early 1970s he became known as a guitar player on sessions for Alan Price, Jack Bruce, Pete Brown's Battered Ornaments and others. During this time he was also playing jazz with Nucleus and recorded and toured with Mike Gibbs. He was a session player on Harry Nilsson's breakthrough album, Nilsson Schmilsson, recorded in London.
