Alabama Shakes

Alabama Shakes is an American rock band that formed in Athens, Alabama, in 2009. The core members of the group are lead singer Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, and drummer Steve Johnson.

The band's origins trace back to Athens, Alabama, where lead singer and guitarist Brittany Howard connected with bassist Zac Cockrell during a high school psychology class. The two began collaborating on songwriting after school. They later recruited drummer Steve Johnson, who was working at a local music store. After recording some initial tracks, the trio brought guitarist Heath Fogg into the fold upon his return from college. Initially named "The Shakes," the band eventually became "Alabama Shakes" to distinguish themselves from other groups with the same name.
