History
Travis Scott, born Jacques Bermon Webster II on April 30, 1992, is an influential American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer from Houston, Texas. Known for his atmospheric production and high-energy stage presence, Scott has become a central figure in modern hip-hop, blending elements of trap, psychedelic music, and melodic rap.
Early Career and Mentorship
Scott's entry into the music industry began in the early 2010s. His unique sound caught the attention of industry veterans, leading to a dual signing with Epic Records and T.I.’s Grand Hustle imprint. Simultaneously, his skills as a producer earned him a spot on Kanye West’s Very GOOD Beats production team. He first gained widespread recognition for his production work and a guest verse on the G.O.O.D. Music compilation track "Sin City" in 2012.
Rise to Prominence
In 2013, Scott released his debut project, the EP Owl Pharaoh, which showcased his ability to create dark, expansive soundscapes. He followed this in 2014 with the mixtape Days Before Rodeo, a critically acclaimed release that solidified his "La Flame" persona and built a dedicated underground following. These early projects established his signature style: heavy use of auto-tune, layered synthesizers, and cinematic arrangements.
Mainstream Success and Astroworld
Scott’s debut studio album, Rodeo (2015), featured the hit single "Antidote" and debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. He achieved his first number-one album with Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight in 2016. However, it was the 2018 release of Astroworld that propelled him to global superstardom. Named after a defunct theme park in his hometown, the album featured the diamond-certified single "SICKO MODE" and earned multiple Grammy nominations, praised for its ambitious production and cohesive vision.
Cactus Jack and Cultural Impact
Beyond his solo career, Scott founded the Cactus Jack Records label, which has signed artists such as Don Toliver and Sheck Wes. His influence extends into fashion and brand partnerships, where he has collaborated with major global entities on design and marketing projects. In 2023, he released his fourth studio album, Utopia, which continued his trend of commercial success and experimental production.
