History
Ferocious Dog
Ferocious Dog is a band hailing from Warsop, Nottinghamshire. The group's origins trace back to the late 1980s as a trio featuring Ken Bonsall on lead vocals and guitar, Dan Booth on fiddle, and Ian Wagstaff on bodhrán. Shortly after, the lineup expanded with the addition of Dave Drury on bass, Paul Newbury on drums, and Jimmy Carrol on guitar, banjo, and penny whistle.
Evolution and New Directions
After several periods of disbandment and reformation, the band experienced a significant shift following the tragic passing of drummer Paul Newbury in 2005. His position was filled by Brad Drury, son of bassist Dave Drury. The group further evolved with the subsequent additions of Kyle Peters on guitar and, in early 2011, Ellis Waring, who brought his talents on mandolin and guitar to the ensemble.
This revitalized lineup propelled Ferocious Dog to greater prominence in 2011. They released new recordings and saw their profile rise at UK festivals, alongside international performances in Dubai. The momentum continued into 2012 with bookings at seven UK festivals, alongside charity events, support slots, and independent gigs. A single was released on iTunes, with an album anticipated soon after.
Their growing success has led to collaborations and friendships, notably with Mark Chadwick, frontman of The Levellers, with whom Ferocious Dog has had the opportunity to perform on multiple occasions.
When not touring, the band members are often found in their hometown of Warsop. Their established base and a venue they consider their true home is 'The Black Market Venue' in Warsop, which is partly owned by Dave Drury.
