KAYTRANADA, born Louis Kevin Celestin on August 25, 1992, is a Haitian-Canadian producer, rapper, and singer. He first gained attention in the early 2010s through a series of mixtapes, remixes, and original projects released under the alias Kaytradamus. By 2013, operating as KAYTRANADA, his unique sound began to garner wider recognition.

Musical Style and Early Career

KAYTRANADA's early work was characterized by a blend of J Dilla-inspired hip-hop beats and fluid house grooves. His distinctive remixes and original productions quickly set him apart. This period saw him release numerous commissioned works and short-form solo projects, building anticipation for his official debut.

Debut Album and Critical Acclaim

In 2014, KAYTRANADA signed with XL Recordings, leading to the release of his debut studio album, 99.9%, in 2016. The album was met with significant critical acclaim, earning him the 2016 Polaris Music Prize and the 2017 Juno Award for Electronic Album of the Year. 99.9% featured collaborations with artists such as Phonte, Craig David, Vic Mensa, and Little Dragon.

Subsequent Releases and Grammy Success

Following his debut, KAYTRANADA signed with RCA Records and released his second album, Bubba, in 2019. This project achieved major success, winning two Grammy Awards at the 2021 ceremony, including Best Dance/Electronic Album. Bubba included guest appearances from Pharrell, Kali Uchis, and Masego.

Collaborations and The Celestics

KAYTRANADA has an extensive list of collaborators, having worked with a diverse range of artists including Anderson .Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Chance the Rapper, Robert Glasper, Lauren Faith, Mick Jenkins, GoldLink, Snoop Dogg, Freddie Gibbs, and Alicia Keys. He is also one half of the hip-hop duo The Celestics, alongside his brother Lou Phelps.
