History
Boxhead Ensemble
Boxhead Ensemble emerged as a dynamic, improvisational collective within Chicago's avant-garde rock scene. The project was initiated by composer Michael Krassner in 1996, initially to create the original score for the film Dutch Harbor.
Musical Lineup and Evolution
The ensemble brought together a notable roster of musicians, featuring members from established acts such as Tortoise, Gastr Del Sol, and Eleventh Dream Day. It also included prominent figures like Will Oldham, Jim O'Rourke, Edith Frost, and Ken Vandermark. Following the initial soundtrack project, Krassner continued to collaborate with this fluid group of musicians, releasing a series of albums.
