Special Affect was a Chicago-based band active from the late 1970s through the early 1980s. The group is often categorized within the "punk/glam/new wave" scene of the era.
Three members of Special Affect went on to achieve wider recognition in other musical projects. Al Jourgensen, a key figure in the band, later co-founded the influential industrial music group Ministry. Frankie Nardiello also found success as a member of My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, another prominent band in the industrial and gothic rock scenes. Harry Rushakoff, the drummer for Special Affect, later joined the alternative rock band Concrete Blonde.
