Fats Comet was the creative alias employed by the influential dub and funk collective Tackhead. The core members behind both projects were Doug Wimbish, Skip McDonald, Keith LeBlanc, and Adrian Sherwood. This dual identity allowed the group to explore distinct sonic territories within their experimental framework.

As described by Steve Barker in the liner notes for the "Power Inc., volumes 1 & 2" compilations, the conceptual distinction between Tackhead and Fats Comet was elegantly articulated. Tackhead was envisioned as the vehicle for pushing dub and funk into uncharted, leftfield territories, venturing into the unknown. Fats Comet, in turn, served as the pilot, guiding the sonic "mothership" back from these experimental dimensions to a familiar, yet novel, earthly landing. The aim was to create sounds that were instantly recognizable yet entirely new to the listener.
