Ishraqiyun

Ishraqiyun, also known as "اشرقون" in Arabic, is a musical project associated with Secret Chiefs 3. The ensemble's work is characterized by intricate compositions that draw heavily on Middle Eastern musical scales and mathematical principles, such as Pythagorean tuning systems.

The name "Ishraqiyun" is derived from the philosophical and mystical teachings of Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi (شهاب‌الدین سهروردی), specifically his school of thought known as Hikmat al Ishraq (حکمت‌الاشراق), which translates to "The Wisdom of Illumination." This connection suggests a deep engagement with esoteric and philosophical concepts as a foundation for their sonic explorations.
