History
LE SSERAFIM is a South Korean girl group established by Source Music and HYBE. The group currently consists of five members: Kim Chaewon, Sakura, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha, and Hong Eunchae. The group's name is an anagram of the phrase "I'M FEARLESS," symbolizing their determination to move forward without being swayed by societal expectations. The name also references the seraphim, six-winged celestial beings.
Formation and Debut Success
The group officially debuted on May 2, 2022, with the release of their first EP, FEARLESS. The title track and album achieved immediate commercial success, breaking the record for the highest first-day sales for a K-pop girl group debut at the time. Originally a six-member ensemble, the group reorganized into a quintet in July 2022 following the departure of Kim Garam.
In October 2022, LE SSERAFIM released their second EP, ANTIFRAGILE. This project marked their first release as a five-member group and became their first million-selling album. It also secured the group’s debut on the US Billboard 200, making them the fastest K-pop girl group to enter the chart. The title tracks from both FEARLESS and ANTIFRAGILE reached the top ten of South Korea’s Circle Digital Chart and earned platinum certifications for streaming in both South Korea and Japan.
International Expansion and First Studio Album
The group expanded into the Japanese market in early 2023 with the Japanese version of "FEARLESS." This release included the original Japanese track "Choices," which served as the theme song for the television drama 3000 Yen: How to Enrich Life. In May 2023, LE SSERAFIM released their first full-length studio album, UNFORGIVEN. The album topped the Circle Album Chart and reached the top ten of the Billboard 200. The title track and the follow-up single, "Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife," became major hits in South Korea and were certified gold in Japan.
In late 2023, the group collaborated with Blizzard Entertainment for the English-language single "Perfect Night," released to promote the video game Overwatch 2. The track achieved significant domestic success, holding the number-one spot on the Circle Digital Chart for six consecutive weeks. During this period, the group also embarked on their first headlining tour, titled FLAME RISES.
Continued Growth and Global Performances
The year 2024 saw the release of the EP EASY in February, which provided the group with their first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100. Following this, LE SSERAFIM performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April, where they collaborated with legendary musician Nile Rodgers. In August 2024, they released their fourth EP, CRAZY, supported by a title track that received various international remixes and an upcoming Japanese version.
