Laufey Lín Bing Jónsdóttir, known professionally as Laufey, is an Icelandic singer-songwriter whose work has been credited with bringing traditional jazz and orchestral pop to a new generation of listeners. Raised between Reykjavík and Washington, D.C., she grew up in a bilingual and highly musical environment. Her mother, a classical violinist, introduced her to piano and cello at an early age, but it was her father’s collection of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday records that sparked her deep interest in vocal jazz.

Laufey’s sound is a sophisticated blend that bridges the gap between the classical world and the Great American Songbook. While she draws technical inspiration from Romantic-era composers like Frédéric Chopin and Maurice Ravel, her songwriting is heavily informed by the melodic structures of George Gershwin and Richard Rodgers.
