Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black Reissue Set for October Release

Extensive New Formats and Archival Material

The upcoming reissue of Amy Winehouse’s blockbuster 2006 album, Back to Black, is scheduled for release via UMR/Island this fall. This lavish set celebrates a record that blended pop, hip-hop, and girl group aesthetics, a signature Soul sound that continues to influence the music industry two decades later. The collection will be available in several physical formats, including triple-CD and clear triple-LP sets, both featuring alternative cover art. Additionally, the original album will be reissued as a “zoetrope” LP, which is designed to provide an illusion of motion while spinning, alongside an Amazon-exclusive CD version.

The 20th anniversary edition includes extensive archival material and personal contributions from the album’s producers, Mark Ronson and Salaam Remi. The set features new liner notes with commentary from both producers, as well as previously unseen photography by Mischa Richter and Alex Lake, whose art was originally featured in the 2006 packaging. Ronson also provided images of handwritten lyrics from his personal archives to be included in the release.

The reissue is appended with various rarities, including four unreleased demos that have not appeared on prior deluxe editions. The three-disc set is organized to provide a comprehensive look at the era, with the second disc focusing on B-sides, bonus tracks, and early versions of hit songs. Highlights include the live BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance of “Valerie,” as well as covers of “Monkey Man,” “Cupid,” and “Hey Little Rich Girl.” Fans will also find original demos for tracks such as “Rehab,” “Love Is a Losing Game,” and “Back to Black.”

A major highlight of the collection is the third disc, which features a full recording of a concert at Amsterdam’s Paradiso from February 8, 2007. This live performance is being released in its entirety for the first time, featuring live renditions of album tracks alongside earlier material like “Fuck Me Pumps” and “I Heard Love Is Blind.”

Commercial Legacy and Chart History

Back to Black was an immediate commercial force upon its initial release in the U.K. in October 2006. It debuted at Number Three on the charts before eventually reaching the Number One spot. To date, the album has been certified 15-times platinum in the U.K. In the United States, the record peaked at Number Two and has earned a double platinum certification.
